A Musical History of Disneyland

For my birthday I got this from the kids, A Musical History of Disneyland.  It is a CD boxed set collection of music from Disneyland, from its opening in 1955 until 2005.  It was released on May 5, 2005 in honor of Disneyland's 50th Anniversary.

I got the Special Edition which comes with 6 CDs, The Sounds of Disneyland hardcover book and Walt Disney Takes You To Disneyland: A Musical Tour Of The Magic Kingdom record album.

I am loading it into my iTunes as we speak!  Thanks kids!

The Disneyland Encyclopedia

So a few months ago I had this idea for a book about Disneyland.  An encyclopedia with descriptions about all the rides (past and present), lands, shows, parades, influential people, etc.  So I started the process of researching and compiling facts and dates and figured I would take a few years and put it together and see what happens.  Well a few days ago while browsing Amazon.com I ran across a book by Chris Strodder, The Disneyland Encyclopedia (The Unofficial, Unauthorized, and Unprecedented History of Every Land, Attraction, Restaurant, Shop, and Event in the Original Magic Kingdom that was written in 2008 and was pretty much everything I was looking to do.  I was only around 3 years too late.  So I ordered the book and it is great!  Only way it could have been better is if it had my name as the author!

Disney Magic Happens

I ran across these Disney commercials on YouTube.  I think they are from the early 2000's but not sure when they started/stopped making them but they should brink back the concept!  Although they are all great commercials I put my favorite one at the end.  Which one is your favorite?

Disney's California Adventure Turns 10 Years Old

Today, February 8, 2011 Disney's California Adventure turns 10 years old. The park opened on February 8, 2001 and occupies the former parking lot for Disneyland where we would park when I was kid.

Although not as popular by the speech given by Walt Disney on July 17, 1955 when Disneyland opened, here is the speech given by Michael Eisner during the opening of Disney California Adventure:

“To all who believe in the power of dreams, welcome. Disney's California Adventure opens its golden gates to you. Here we pay tribute to the dreamers of the past: the native people, explorers, immigrants, aviators, entrepreneurs and entertainers who built the Golden State. And we salute a new generation of dreamers who are creating the wonders of tomorrow, from the silver screen to the computer screen, from the fertile farmlands to the far reaches of space. Disney's California Adventure celebrates the richness and the diversity of California... its land, its people, its spirit and, above all, the dreams that it continues to inspire.

”

CLICK HERE to view an article on the Disney Park Blog about the anniversary.  If everything works out this weekend I will make a stop into Disney California Adventure on Sunday to ride a few of my favorite rides there . . . California Screamin' and Soarin' Over California.

Fantasia / Fantasia 2000

This was another one of my Christmas presents.  One of my all-time favorite Disney movies, Fantasia along with Fantasia 2000.    It was originally released on November 13, 1940 and was Walt Disney Productions third feature-length animated feature film.  Fantasia 2000 was the sequel to Fantasia and released on December 17, 1999.

Disney's A Christmas Carol

The classic Charles Dickens tale re-told by Disney starring Jim Carrey.

It came out earlier in the week and we finally picked it up today.  We got to watch a little bit of it but dinner, homework and bedtime got in the way.  We will finally get to finish it tomorrow night . . . I can't wait.

Upcoming Disney Movies: TRON: Legacy

The TRON saga continues with the release of TRON: Legacy, 28 years after the original TRON in 1982.

Here is the synopsis by Walt Disney Pictures - Sam Flynn (Hedlund), a rebellious 27-year-old, is haunted by the mysterious disappearance of his father Kevin Flynn (Bridges), a man once known as the world's leading video-game developer. When Sam investigates a strange signal sent from the old Flynn's Arcade -- a signal that could only come from his father-- he finds himself pulled into a digital world where Kevin has been trapped for 20 years. With the help of the fearless warrior Quorra (Wilde), father and son embark on a life-or-death journey across a cyber universe -- a universe created by Kevin himself that has become far more advanced with vehicles, weapons, landscapes and a ruthless villain who will stop at nothing to prevent their escape.

Check out the TRON: Legacy Official Trailer if you haven't seen it.

TRON: Legacy is set to be released on December 17, 2010.  Who's going to see it?

Upcoming Disney Animated Movies: Tangled

Tangled is the 50th animated feature in Walt Disney's Animated Classic series.  The story is based on the classic German fairy tale Rapunzel by the Brothers Grimm.  The original title was going to be Rapunzel Unbraided and then Rapunzel before being switched to Tangled.  Tangled is set to be released on November 24, 2010 and I am sure Kaylee will be bugging us to see it very soon.

Disneyland Progress Report

For those that know me real well know I am addicted to all things Disney, Disneyland and Walt Disney. Here is a progress report that aired in 1955 on Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color (1954-1990).  It is very cool to see the beginnings of the "The Happiest Place on Earth" - Disneyland and to see where they are at today.  Although a lot has changed in its 55 years of existence the magic is still there!

Check out the Disneyland pre-opening report below.

Disneyland Pre-Opening Report

From what I could gather these aired on July 13, 1955 on Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color (1954-1990).

Check out the live television broadcast of the Disneyland Opening below.

Family Movie Night - Toy Story 3

Tonight was Family Movie Night and we watched Toy Story 3 which came out last Tuesday in case you didn't know.  It was just as good as when we saw it in the theater while on leave in Vegas.  This time though I didn't have James sitting next to me with tears in his eyes!  :)
